Treatment for Cervical Radiculopathy and other Spinal Conditions
Cervical radiculopathy is a degenerative disease of the spinal column, which can lead to pain, tingling, loss of sensation, and worse. Of course, there are other diseases of the spinal column that may manifest themselves in similar ways, but must be treated in different ways. As such, trying to sort out all of the possible causes to back pain and pain and tingling of the extremities must be done by a doctor. In addition to cervical radiculopathy, there are other conditions such as cervical spinal stenosis, scoliosis, and spondylolisthesis. To make matters more confusing, the use of non medical terms creates greater confusion because of their impreciseness. As such, people often use the terms bulging disc or herniated disc with a variety of different conditions to do with the spine. Nevertheless, we are fortunate enough today to have doctors who are capable of using cutting edge medical procedures to treat, and even cure, a variety of spinal conditions.
When it comes to cervical radiculopathy, it is a degenerative condition in which pressure is placed on the spine by a narrowing of the spinal column. The causes of cervical radiculopathy can include injury, arthritis, or general bone degeneration that comes with age. Another degenerative condition of the spinal column is cervical stenosis, which is the narrowing of the spinal column in the neck, which also places pressure on the soft tissue of the spine, and results in pain, loss of sensation, and tingling of the extremities. Scoliosis is another disease of the spine, which is a bit different from cervical radiculopathy and cervical stenosis. Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine that usually begins during childhood, and also places pressure on the spine.
While each of the above conditions somehow places pressure and strain on the spinal cord, each of which might be referred to by laymen, aside from scoliosis, as a herniated disc. Regardless each must be treated as soon as possible by a physician who is skilled in procedures such as spinal fusion surgery, spinal stenosis treatment, spondylolisthesis treatment, cervical fusion, or bulging disc surgery. Whether it is cervical radiculopathy, lumbar stenosis, or cervical stenosis, only a premier spine surgeon can determine the specific cause and offer the most appropriate treatment. Thus, if one experiences tingling or pain in the back, neck or extremities, he or she should not procrastinate, and should see a spine surgeon right away.
